In Asia-Pacific countries, many are concerned about North Korea's nuclear program

In a forum on peace and security in the Korean Peninsula held in Makati City yesterday, the South Korean official who asked not to be named in this report pointed out that the Philippines is one of the leading Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries that can play a role in encouraging China and the United States to cooperate with each other and curb North Korea's nuclear arms threat.

"We must take every diplomatic and economic measure now to stop North Korea and to prevent nuclear war".

On Monday, the Associated Press news agency reported, citing two UN diplomats, that the United States distributed a draft resolution among the permanent members of the UN Security Council - Russia, China, Britain and France - on the new sanctions against Pyongyang in connection with the alleged test launch of the intercontinental missile.

The so-called secondary sanctions now being considered are a way for the United States to apply targeted economic pressure on companies in countries with ties to North Korea by denying them access to the U.S. market and financial system. Still, after meeting with President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit on July 8, Trump tweeted they'd had had an "excellent" meeting on trade and North Korea.

The Syrian regime has carried out a number of deadly chemical attacks in areas besieged by anti-Assad rebel groups. Tillerson also said Russian Federation had an obligation to prevent the use of chemical weapons by Assad regime.

"We are talking to China to do more against North Korea", the South Korean official said.

It has been reported that the U.S. has proposed a new draft UNSC resolution for further sanctions on North Korea to China. China imported about 445 million metric tons of iron ore in the first five months of 2017, according to Bloomberg Intelligence, of which just 1.1 million metric tons came from North Korea.

All coal imports from North Korea happened before Feb 18, and "this is a sign of China's implementing the UNSC resolutions", Huang said.

"Make no mistake, the Security Council's sanctions on [North Korea] can not be equated with all-encompassing economic sanctions". Those imports all came before February 18, an illustration of how China has enforced sanctions, Huang said. Total trade increased 10.5 percent to $2.55 billion during the period. "Trade related to DPRK people's livelihood, especially those that reflect humanitarianism should not be influenced by the sanctions", Huang said. While North Korea claimed that it could strike anywhere in the world, most experts initially assessed the range to be somewhere around 4,000 miles, which would put Alaska within firing range. Almost two-thirds of Americans (64%) say the USA should use military force to defend its allies in Asia in the event that they get into a serious military conflict with North Korea.
