Trump Heads To Poland To Reaffirm US-European Ties Ahead Of G20

US President Donald Trump lashed out at China Wednesday, pointing to a surge in its trade with North Korea as evidence that US reliance on Beijing to rein in Pyongyang was misplaced.

Duda's spokesman Krzysztof Łapiński said the fact that Trump's second foreign visit since taking office was beginning with a stop in Poland "spoke volumes", adding that no other U.S. president has come to Warsaw so soon after inauguration.

The ruling party is bussing in its supporters from all over Poland, encouraging them to take part in a "great patriotic picnic" on the occasion of Trump's visit.

In that quest, the embattled USA president will get a sizeable assist from Poland's ruling conservative party, which said it is laying on free buses to ferry in admirers.

There, anti-globalization protestors are already amassing on the city of Hamburg, where Trump will attend a G20 meeting, and are planning a "welcome to hell" rally.

Trump's first visit to the continent in May stirred anxieties among European allies when he declined to endorse NATO's common defense treaty explicitly and scolded world leaders for not spending more on their armed forces.

McMaster said Trump will deliver "a major speech to the Polish people at Krasiński Square, epicenter of the 1944 Warsaw uprising against the brutal Nazi occupation".

President Donald Trump will learn this week whether he gets a second chance to make a first impression as he returns to Europe and has his first encounter with Russia's Vladimir Putin.

Topeka forecast for coming days includes multiple chances of rain
A trailing disturbance could bring a few more showers or brief rumbles on Monday , but most of the day looks dry. Maybe a little lower rain chance on Sunday with more sunshine and afternoon readings rising into the lower 90s.

"He will lay out a vision not only for America's future relationship with Europe, but the future of our trans-Atlantic alliance, and what that means for American security and American prosperity", Trump's national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, told reporters last week. "But he's also made clear that we will do what is necessary to confront Russia's destabilizing behavior".

Preparing for the trip, Trump spoke Monday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

After this trip, the president will be back in Europe soon for a mid-July visit to France to celebrate Bastille Day alongside new French President Emmanuel Macron.

It is something of a departure for a USA president to visit a central European Country before the United Kingdom, France or Germany. Poland has been particularly concerned about the perceived Russian threat.

Polish politics has shifted right in recent years, marked by the election to government of the Law and Justice Party, a hard-right nationalist conservative party fuelled by populism, traditionalism, and Christianity - not a million miles away from Team Trump's agenda. Trump has had three phone calls with Putin since taking office.

"It's going to be huge - absolutely huge", said pro-government Polish politician Dominik Tarczynski, who is organizing a busload of Trump supporters.

But Poland promised Trump a warm welcome when inviting him for a state visit, and it is doing everything it can to manufacture adulatory crowds.

During his first foreign trip as President last May, Mr. Trump left world leaders feeling uneasy given his "America First" positions on trade and climate change. But multiple senior administration officials and people close to the White House said they didn't expect Trump to raise the issue, at least in a significant way, during his talks with Putin.
