West Indies and Pakistan had days to forget as they were skittled for 48 and 74 respectively in the Women's World Cup on Sunday.
With the performance, van Niekerk became the first bowler in the history of worldwide cricket - taking both women's as well as men's versions of the sport into consideration - to collect four or more wickets in an innings without conceding a single run.
"All the pitches will play exactly the same because they are good pitches so if we bat first we have to get runs on the board and bowling first we have to bowl them out for a decent target to chase it down".
Marizanne Kapp (4-14) provided the early damage for the South Africans, dismissing Reniece Boyce, Kyshona Knight and Deandra Dottin in a single over to put West Indies under huge pressure at 16-5 from eight overs. For Pakistan, it was Nashra Sandhu who scalped four wickets to restrict the opposition to just 169.
Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk produced inspired spells of bowling performances to help South Africa beat West Indies comprehensively by 10 wickets in the ICC Women's World Cup match at Leicester.

It was South Africa who won the toss and elected to field first, a wise decision in the end by the skipper that had the Windies bundled out for just 48 in 25.2 overs.
However, van Niekerk came into the attack looking for a breakthrough and ended up with four wickets without giving away a run. I'm really proud of the bowlers, especially my two opening bowlers - world class. They were bowled out for 41 against England Women in 2008.
But Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the West Indies are in danger of being cast adrift, with all three teams yet to win a match.
On her record-breaking statistic, she commented sheepishly; "The ball was not coming off great, I can't tell you what happened there today". Van Niekerk was pleased that her players were the ones to approach the coaching staff and ask for it. The most important thing is to stay on top of our game and we know that it's not going to be like this in every match.
