Qatar says working on response to Gulf demands, but says they're unrealistic

The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain have accused Qatar of funding extremism and have cut ties with the Arab state.

Rex Tillerson has been shuttling between meetings with the rival parties, dragged further into the conflict as each side tries to enlist US support.

Mr. Emamzadeh pointed out that in his meeting with "Jaber al-Harmi" the then editor of Al-Sharq newspaper (one of the most significant Qatari newspapers), Jaber al-Harmi told him that, ; "my generation and our fathers only known Shiraz (Iranian close city to Doha) for their shopping, health care and entertainment!"

Saudi Arabia and other Sunni Arab countries have been complaining about these Qatari activities for the past five years.

Afterward, Tillerson's spokesperson Heather Nauert released a statement saying the secretary and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah of Kuwait "reaffirmed the need for all parties to exercise restraint to allow for productive diplomatic discussions".

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar's foreign minister, has already said that any negotiations will begin only after the blockade regime is softened, that is, without ultimatums and pressure, but as partners.

This unusual relationship has always intimidated Saudi Arabia - Qatar's largest Arab neighbor and Iran's main rival in the region - since it sees in such ties a serious threat to its national security and a vulnerability that Iran could exploit to divide the unity of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Navy recovers bodies of 7 sailors killed in crash
Trump tweeted Saturday morning Washington time: " Thoughts and prayers with the sailors of USS Fitzgerald and their families". Commander of the Seventh Fleet Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin said only frantic damage control efforts had saved the ship.

Hamad Bin Ali Al Attiyah will meet with Turkish Defence Minister Fikri Isik at the defence ministry in Ankara, the state-run news agency Anadolu said on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed sanctions on the country on June 5, accusing it of supporting "terrorism".

To Saudi officials, Qatar's fulfilling their demands could mean meeting the spirit of some of them, without accomplishing each item itself. Kuwait has been acting as an intermediary between Qatar and its accusers. "Platts has also observed vessels berthing at key co-load ports in the region before or after calling at Qatar for loading, clearly indicating that co-loading is normalizing in the Gulf, including in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia", it said. He believes that is the effect of Donald Trump trip to Saudi Arabia.

Tillerson's bid to defuse the standoff in the Gulf is backed by the Pentagon and the State Department, which are deeply concerned at the implications for the huge US Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, home to 11,000 American troops and forward headquarters for the US Central Command. "We agree with Washington that the demands should be reasonable.

This list of demands is non-negotiable and should be implemented in full", remarked Al Jubeir.

The United States has cautioned that some of the demands would be hard for Qatar to accept, asking the Saudis for a clear list of grievances that are "reasonable and actionable". Qatar has previously also said the demands were aimed at curbing its sovereignty.
