Turkish troops take part in drills in Qatar

US President Donald Trump has criticized Qatar for supporting terrorist groups, while the Pentagon has thanked the Gulf country for its efforts to combat extremism.

Qatar says it will not negotiate with Arab states which cut diplomatic and travel ties with it earlier this month unless they reverse their measures, the country's foreign minister said.

Ms Smith - who was appointed as the head diplomat in Doha by former President Barack Obama three years ago - has since tweeted that "Qatar is a strong partner in combating terrorist financing", contradicting the US President's public claims that the country is "a funder of terrorism at a very high level".

"We can not just have (vague) demands such as 'the Qataris know what we want from them, they have to stop this or that, they have to be monitored by a foreign monitoring mechanism, '" Sheikh Mohammed said. Sheikh Mohammed revealed aviation support has come from Iran after Saudi Arabia closed its airspace to Qatari airlines.

Chiding his veep for "unacceptable" anti-Iran comments, Abadi said, "It is not right to voice [personal] positions against regional states in the name of the Iraqi government". The countries that imposed the sanctions gave Qataris two weeks to leave, which expired yesterday.

Touching upon this, Kiziltas said Turkey "by its mediation diplomacy, wants to convey to these countries that the policy of isolation of Qatar can at any time be used against them by interested forces".

The GCC countries have partnered with the United States in the fight against the financing of terrorism, a move that is of great importance in the efforts to drain the sources of funding of terrorist organisations and extremist groups all, Al-Jubeir added.

Erdogan told Portuguese television this week that he had approached the Gulf state's King Salman "with the same idea for Saudi" after work began on the base in Qatar in 2014.

But experts fear that, due to its pro-Qatar stance, Turkey's latest diplomatic efforts could yield only limited results in ending the crisis and bringing the situation back to normal. Later, the Maldives, Mauritius, and Mauritania also announced the severance of diplomatic relations.

On 7 June - the third day of the crisis - the Turkish parliament fast-tracked legislation to allow the troops to be sent to Qatar.
