Wife: Man who shot congressman wanted to work on tax policy

Steve Scalise, R-La., speaks with the media on Capitol Hill, Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Washington.

Hodgkinson is accused of shooting at several members of the Republican baseball team that was practicing this week for the annual congressional baseball game played for charity. After police released his photo, Craig said, she immediately recognized Hodgkinson and remembered his being "a little shady". And starting a "little more than a month and a half ago", Euille said, one of those people happened to be Hodgkinson.

Hodgkinson was found to have had a handgun and 7.62-caliber rifle that both were purchased by licensed sellers, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in an update Thursday. "I don't deserve this, my daughters don't deserve this". "Have right-wing reactionaries, through threats and acts of violence, intimidated people with different points of view from expressing their political positions?"

The wife of a man who shot a USA congressman and four others at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia said she had no idea he was going to the Washington D.C. area to commit such a horrific act.

The FBI said yesterday that it believed Hodgkinson was living out of his van in Alexandria.

Two of Hodgkinson's victims were severely wounded.

CBS News reported that the note was not necessarily an "assassination list", but that it indicated Hodgkinson had recently focused on the individuals on the list. At the request of the family, we will continue to provide periodic updates. The bullet fractured bones, injured internal organs and caused severe bleeding, the MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in a statement Thursday. He is still listed in critical condition. The statement noted that he has done better over the past 24 hours but will require further surgery and will stay in the hospital for some time.

O'Mahony could prove a genuine captaincy option for the Lions' first Test, with tour skipper Sam Warburton still scrambling for full match sharpness after ankle trouble.

Residents from one southern IL city are still in shock after finding out one of their neighbors is accused of shooting several people, including a congressman, outside of Washington D.C. Wednesday morning.

Sava added that Scalise "was as critical as you can be when he came in" after a single rifle shot traversed his body from his left hip through internal organs to the other hip as witnesses said he was fielding ground balls. Both had appeared on the House floor earlier Thursday. And she thinks the community will rally around to support his family. Capitol Police Special Agent Crystal Griner was shot in the ankle. A former congressional aide was hospitalized.

Wagner said there was no way to predict that Hodgkinson would take such violent action.

"I yelled to him and I said, 'Hey, what the hell are you doing, stop the shooting", one neighbor said.

According to the FBI, Hodgkinson began shooting at around 7:09 AM EST on June 14 and officers arrived at approximately 7:12 AM and the suspect was engaged by law enforcement at 7:14 AM.

The FBI is still investigating the case and is looking through Hodgkinson's belongings, including his cellphone, computer and camera.

He frequented the YMCA location right next to the baseball diamond in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, and even went there the morning of the shooting.
