Donaldson fired four birdies in a flawless round at Barseback Golf and Country Club in Malmo, where Italy's Renato Paratore and England's Max Orrin shared top spot on five under. His approach into the hard green on the 484-yard par-4 18th hole found a greenside bunker, and he ended up settling for his only dropped stroke of the day for a seven-under 65.
Jordan Spieth and Daniel Summerhays are a shot further back on six under, but world number one Dustin Johnson endured a nightmare round as he sits 13 shots off the lead following a 78 which included a triple bogey at the 16th. I've been in leads a lot on the weekends.
Moody's Downgrades China's Rating
The downgrade, which is the first for China since 1989, was quickly dismissed by the government's finance ministry. China's total debt reached 253% of its GDP in 2016, up from 213% in 2013 and 149% in 2008, according to JP Morgan.
"I need to just keep playing well", he said of looking to Saturday's round. "My wedge play was awesome last week and it continued this week", said Spieth. He blasted out 12 feet past the hole and missed the par putt.
Japan's Hideki Matsuyama, who won his first US PGA tour title at the Memorial in 2014, shook off a tough front nine with four birdies coming in en route to a two-under 70.
It was a tough day, too, for former world number one Jason Day, who had six bogeys and three birdies in a three-over 75.
