Led raid kills seven suspected al-Qaida fighters in Yemen

The Defense statement adds that the operation was conducted with the support of Yemen's government.

The raid comes just two days after President Donald Trump left Saudi Arabia, where he announced a $110-billion deal that will supply the Saudis with USA weapons systems and other defensive capabilities.

Davis said this was the first time the U.S. had carried out a ground raid inside Maarib Province, and the deepest that United States ground forces had yet gone into Yemen.

The US has carried out frequent strikes on al-Qaeda's bases in Yemen, often using unmanned drones. They are now examining materials seized by US forces. That operation was the first military raid authorized under President Donald Trump.

The operation, which took place Tuesday local time, targeted a compound believed to be affiliated with al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in Yemen's Marib governorate, CENTCOM said in a statement. Josh Jaques, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command.

Yemen, of course, is not the only place where the us military is claiming innocent lives.

He told police the "shooting stemmed from Himmelman and Oneschuk disrespecting Arthurs' Muslim faith", the police report states. He was arrested on possession of unregistered destructive devices and unlawful storage of explosive charges.

Five people who were killed by USA forces during a ground operation in Yemen are believed to have been civilians, a human rights group reported on Tuesday.

Regarding the controversial USA support for Saudi efforts to combat the Houthi insurgency, which has killed over 7,400 civilians, many resulting from Saudi airstrikes, Gates said "it is important we demonstrate to our allies that we will support them". On Tuesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks casualties amid Syria's ongoing civil war, reported the number of civilians killed by USA bombings over the last month has been the highest ever recorded over a 30-day time period.

Washington, which has carried out more than 80 strikes against Al Qaeda militants in Yemen since February, regards AQAP to be the most unsafe branch of the extremist group.

Yemen has been torn apart by conflict since 2014, when Houthi fighters allied with troops loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh captured large expanses of the impoverished Arabian Peninsula country, including the capital Sanaa.

Seven Al-Qaeda militants have been killed during a US counterterrorism operation in Yemen, according to US Central Command.

U.S. special operations forces have stepped up ground operations inside Yemen in recent months amid growing concern that AQAP continues to plan attacks on Western targets, including commercial aviation.
