In call to Trump, Chinese leader urges restraint over NKorea

Workers' Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun stated in an editorial Tuesday its army has the capacity to "respond to any war the United States wants", and that the "era of the US imperialist's nuclear terror has ended forever", because North Korea has developed its own nuclear capacity.

A USA guided-missile submarine made a port call in South Korea and the allied nations conducted maritime exercises Tuesday, while North Korea reportedly conducted a large artillery drill as tensions mounted on the divided peninsula.

The South's Yonhap news agency reported that the exercises were North Korea's largest ever, involving some 300 or 400 pieces of artillery, but the joint chiefs did not confirm the number.

North Korea held an enormous military parade held to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the country's founder, Kim Il Sung on April 15.

Tuesday marks the founding anniversary of North Korea's armed forces.

Pyongyang frequently conducts nuclear and missile tests in the days surrounding high-profile events, several of which occur in April.

On Wednesday, the entire U.S. Senate will make their way to the White House to be briefed about North Korea, according to The Guardian. Commander Jang Wook from the South Korean navy public affairs office said there is no plan for any drill.

Two Japanese destroyers conducted exercises on Monday with the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier strike group that is headed for waters off the Korean peninsula, sent by Trump as a warning to the North.

Russia, China Criticize US Over South Korea Deployment
According to Yonhap news agency, the parts include two or three launchers, intercept missiles and a radar. The South Korean military was monitoring the situation and "firmly maintaining readiness", it said.

The United States, Japan and South Korea agreed Tuesday to put maximum pressure on North Korea, the South's envoy for North Korea said after meeting his American and Japanese counterparts in Tokyo.

The three envoys held talks in Tokyo on Tuesday, where they agreed that China and Russian Federation have vital roles to push nuclear towards denuclearisation. President Trump spoke to Shinzo Abe, Japan's Prime Minister, and Chinese President Xi Jinping over the weekend in an effort to work on a diplomatic solution.

North Korea poses one the sternest national security challenges facing the 3-month-old Trump administration.

Trump later told the UN Security Council ambassadors that "the status quo" was unacceptable and that the UN must prepare itself to issue further sanctions against Kim Jong-un's rogue dictatorship.

Donald Trump has continued his campaign of showing off his military might to North Korea's Kim Jong-un - while Pyongyang's war propaganda machine continues to work overtime.

When asked what would happen if North Korea tests an intercontinental missile or nuclear device, Haley told NBC: "I think then the president steps in and decides what's going to happen". The reasons for the detention of Tony Kim, who taught accounting at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, weren't immediately clear.

North Korea has been aggressively pursuing a decades-long goal of putting a nuclear warhead on an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, capable of reaching the USA mainland. It also launched a long-range rocket a year ago that delivered a satellite into orbit, which Washington, Seoul and others saw as a banned test of missile technology.

A North Korea defence expert told the South China Morning Post it is because the country fears a radical opposition which it can not control. While it has not fired missiles against other countries, it has vowed strong action - including missile attacks against South Korea - if it is invaded by the South and the US.
