Dallas police: Paramedic shot, undergoing surgery

The neighbor Brown allegedly had a dispute with and shot is also in intensive care, according to Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. An has been with the department for more than 10 years and works at Station 19. Police have not identified the second person other than to say the person was a Dallas resident.

Derick Lamont Brown was acting erratically at his home before he forced his 67-year-old roommate into a back room and fatally shot him Monday, said Randy Blankenbaker, Dallas' assistant police chief of investigations. "During this time, a suspect approached the area and then opened fire".

Dallas Police guard an area of a neighborhood where a shooting took place in east Dallas, Monday, May 1, 2017.

It is believed the gunman was in the street shooting at that point, Pughes said.

Dallas' mayor says two bodies have been found in a local home, including the body of a person suspected of shooting a paramedic.

Dallas SWAT team members and police officers are searching for the shooter near the crime scene, close to Dolphin Road and Interstate 30, which is near the Dallas Fire-Rescue Training Academy.

Another Dallas officer was also treated at the scene for an unspecified injury, authorities said.

A police sergeant "went in alone" and pulled out the injured paramedic.

The wounded paramedic, reported to be in critical condition, was rushed into surgery at at Baylor Medical Center, where fellow firefighters gathered.

The department requested a "citywide assist", meaning it asked for the help of any available Dallas officer.

An officer was also hut but not taken to the hospital.

"Please continue to pray for Will and keep him and our entire family in your prayers".

The city said the paramedic, whose name has not been released, underwent surgery and is in "critical, but stable condition".

"The long and the short of this is we had a paramedic that worked diligently and with great vigor to take care of somebody".

"Every city, every community, every agency is going to make a decision that they feel is in the best interest of their community", said MedStar Public Affairs Director Matt Zavadsky. Brown appears to have allegedly first shot his neighbor, and he then shot one of the paramedics who responded and were treating the neighbor.

Anna Hill, president of the neighborhood association, tweeted a description of the shooter and told everyone to "be safe and look out". Dozens of police vehicles have swarmed the mostly residential area. Police believe Brown died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
