Woods, sidelined by back pain for the past 15 months, will launch his official comeback at the January 26-29 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in southern California, the PGA Tour event announced on Wednesday.
Woods' last tournament came in August of 2015 at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he finished tied for 10th place.
He also captured the 2008 U.S. Open there on one of his favourite layouts.
The tournament is hosted by the Woods Foundation and it was also the first PGA tournament he played in as a 16-year-old.
Woods also recounted how Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan was used by the US Ryder Cup team to give him a boost during his lay-off when he served as assistant captain a year ago. The 14-time major champ has talked about needing work (and reps) to knock the proverbial rust of his game - as have his peers - and Woods is diving into 2017 headlong with tournaments in two different countries and three time zones.
Tiger Woods is optimistic of a successful 2017 after a return to golf and playing with USA president-elect Donald Trump.
